GAZ-14 "Chaika"

      GAZ-14 "Chaika" (Газ-14 "Чайка")

Work on the draft of a new car for a large class of GAZ automobile plant began in 1967 year.
In 1968, there was already a full-scale model of the future of "The Seagull" second generation, the exterior of which is clearly dated back to some generalized image of upscale American car of the year. The project was approved layout Commission in 1969, and then began making prototypes.
Unfortunately, for a number of reasons for the path to the production of the new model was a very long one.

The project was approved layout Commission in 1969, and then began making prototypes. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons for the path to the production of the new model was a very long one.
In 1975, pre-production sample has been tested in a variety of road conditions, including the extreme, on the roads of the Crimea and the Caucasus, and the next, in 1976, after the elimination of deficiencies identified by the same route already passed state acceptance trials, which resulted in the car was finally recommended for production.
In 1977 was released the first production lot. Thus, between the start of work on the new "Seagull" and the start of its production has been more than ten years. However, even at the start of its launch car looked in its stylistic direction quite modern, which he was obliged to long crisis of the American auto industry of the 1970s, when an update lineups slowed down many times, and the design development has practically stopped.
Small-scale production of "The Seagull" lasted for 11 years, until 1988. Since 1985, the car received a code 1402 and several novshevstv.
In 1988, under the so-called "war on privileges", the car was withdrawn from the market on the personal instructions of Mikhail Gorbachev, and at the same time has been destroyed all tooling, documentation, assembly lines, body stamps
During the period from 1976 to 1989 were collected 1120 GAZ-14 of all modifications. Last car was assembled December 24, 1988 and left the factory in January 1989.
In the mid nineties guide Automobile Plant GAZ hatched a plan to resume production of "The Seagull." It appears, however, that almost no documentation or production equipment at the plant did not survive, and the development of a car of this class "from scratch" was beyond the power plant and economically feasible.
In 2008, the car was given the status of an object of cultural and technical heritage of the USSR.
